Previews:
ENVIRONMENT
Through an amazing “virtual forest” tour, information is presented on several of the animals that make the forest their home including: whitetail deer, red-cockaded woodpecker, alligator, and wild turkey. Learn which foods they prefer, where they are located in the state, and some of their unique habits.
PRODUCTS
Play “I Wood If I Could” to learn about the many products made from trees. There are over five thousand products that can be made, and every part of the tree is used -- the solid wood, wood pulp, bark, sugars and cellulose. In addition, many wood products are recovered, recycled, and reused every day.
BALANCE
Nearly two-thirds of South Carolina is covered with trees. By practicing proper forest management we can maintain healthy ecosystems and provide a steady supply of products. Learn about the various stages of the forest, which products and wildlife are found in each, and “watch” the trees grow during each stage.
RECREATION
Numerous outdoor activities can be enjoyed in a South Carolina forest. The CD’s maps contain information about opportunities for: boating, biking, camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and swimming. It also includes natural and wildlife viewing areas.
