Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an environmental education program designed for teachers and other educators working with students from pre-kindergarten through high school. It uses the forest as a "window" into the natural world, helping young people gain an awareness and knowledge of the environment and their place within it. The SC program is sponsored by the South Carolina Forestry Foundation, forest industry, SC Dept. of Education, and SC Forestry Commission. SC Teaching KATE (Kids About The Environment) Program continues to give students the opportunity to learn about natural resources in an outdoor setting, through hands-on interdisciplinary activities. The core curriculum is divided into four, three-hour classes: forestry, soils, water, and wildlife. In addition to the original program, a seventh and eighth grade curriculum is available for returning or advanced groups.

The SC Teachers' Tour is a project of the SC Forestry Foundation. Selected teachers are given a first-hand experience of the woods and mills of South Carolina. They see how our society and economy depend on forest resources and learn about sustainable forest management. PROGRAM TOPICS: Forest management/sustainable forestry, ecosystem management/biodiversity, wildlife conservation/endangered species protection, forest products production, and contributions to SC's economy.

Wood Magic Forest Fair
Wood Magic Forest Fair is a special event for fourth graders that mixes fun and entertainment with fascinating info about our forests. Students observe a sawmill in action and see a fire-fighting bulldozer while learning about recycling, forest ecology, and natural resources. They'll make paper, blow bubbles through a solid block of wood, and find out how important wood is in our everyday lives.
