Wood Magic Forest Fair

Wood Magic Forest Fair is a special event for fifth graders that mixes fun and entertainment with fascinating info about our forests. Students observe a sawmill in action and see a fire-fighting bulldozer while learning about recycling, forest ecology, and natural resources. The goal of the program is to teach kids how important forests and forest products are in their everyday lives. A key concept presented in this event is that through sustainable management we can enjoy the many benefits of a growing forest and can also harvest trees for the thousands of useful products that improve our quality of life. The goal is accomplished through a variety of hands-on activities led by forestry professionals from several organizations. There are six different stations students visit to learn about: forest product usage in everyday life; production of wood products using forestry equipment; the importance of fire in ecosystems; human and forest ecosystem relationships; the process of creating paper; and a magic show finale that synthesizes the information learned from all stations.

Due to a limited amount of class slots available, applications and acceptances are first-come, first-served. To apply for your field trip and learn about future fairs, visit the Wood Magic Forest Fair Website
